Street Fighter Arcade (one credit keyboard play)

–The very first Street Fighter game–

No, this isn’t a third-party hack or whatever it may look like, this is indeed the first Street Fighter title by Capcom that made an arcade appearance in 1987 before making it to the Turbo TurboGrafx-CD (PC Engine) as “Fighting Street” one year later.

Unlike its sequels, this one as you can see has special moves that are notoriously difficult to pull off. And I use the keyboard.

I did one earlier but it yielded more evidence of the player trying to pull those moves off, so I did another and also ended up getting a higher score lol.

Other than that, this must also be the first fighting game in the world that has more complex move controls other than the basic punch and kick buttons (that executes the fireball and dragon punch and copter kick moves).

And unfortunately, I did it in just one miserable credit.

Hope you enjoy watching it.

    Yeah. And it’s *unblockable*.

No surprise here. Capcom was starting from scratch and doing what came naturally. The specialties were based on the super-powerful special attacks from fighting anime (right down to the calls), so of course they’d do massive damage.

Anyway, it’s good to take a look back every once in a while to see just how far this game, and fighting games in general, have come.

Ah, this takes me back. :-)

Make no mistake about it, a 1-credit completion is pretty impressive. I only ever saw it a few times. Some of these opponents can flatten you in ten seconds if you mess up (I agree that this video really doesn’t do Adon any justices).

I do know that some players got really good at pulling out specialties on demand. Now that I’ve actually played this, I’m extremely impressed at how easy they made it look.

I love high-damage games. The extremity appeals to me, and you do not waste time.

Any one who has any recommendations of video game past and present of such a nature feel free to let me know.

    Well, it because …
Well, it because Ryu’s serious nature doesn’t seem to exist in the 1st game. He more looks like a comic relief shouting “alright” in bonus stages.

  12. SeventhSun Says:

    Why, too basic for …
Why, too basic for a bonus stage?

  13. SeventhSun Says:

    Nah, that line from …
Nah, that line from the game is only a myth or should I say, a humble pie statement.

    The jaw-dropping, terrifying truth is… I am unparalleled (無比,無雙).

Even the “Ancient One” was not brave enough to challenge me. There were even rumors that he actually cried like a baby in his cave when he heard of my name from afar.

yo, just thought you should know, that you should NOT forget that there are many guys like you all over the world.

  15. DonPatch Says:

    his eye damage was …
his eye damage was from Dan’s father Go Hibiki. Ryu just left him “scarred” for life.

  16. SeventhSun Says:

    Nah actually Sagat …
Nah actually Sagat all along has just one eye. Then in the later series the Zero/Alpha series Capcom claimed that his eye was destroyed by Dan’s father.

  17. Mindlessmoonchild Says:

    maybe he used to …
maybe he used to wear just for style back in 1987, then eventually for function when ryu beat him up

    That chop blocking …
That chop blocking stage made me really ROFL!

  20. SeventhSun Says:

    Nah, if you notice …
Nah, if you notice Sagat already got an eye patch in this game, without the scar.

So the eye damage was given to him by someone else.

  21. SeventhSun Says:

    That’s true …
That’s true devastating Hadou power for you that Ryu mastered in 1987.

  22. MiddleEasternBorder Says:

    I thought sagat got …
I thought sagat got his scar and eye damage both to ryu since i think the shoryuken got sagat’s chest and eye in a straight line.

  23. MiddleEasternBorder Says:

    WTF?!? 3 hits of …
WTF?!? 3 hits of fireballs and birdie’s dead?

  24. SeventhSun Says:

    And imagine: if …
And imagine: if Sagat became the next King of England he’ll be a golf pro too, considering that Birdie and Eagle would be his servants in turn.

  25. SeventhSun Says:

    For some reason the …
For some reason the film ‘Anna and the King’ comes to mind…
